The heart
A muscular pump about the size of your fist. It sits between the lungs, tilted a little to the left.
The right side collects blood coming back from the body and pumps it to the lungs to pick up oxygen.
The left side receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the whole body. Its wall is the thickest.
One-way doors keep blood moving forward: tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral and aortic. Their closing makes the “lub-dub”.
